About Scrimshaw

Animation worth your time.

Scrimshaw is the new home for the world's boldest animated shorts. A curated space for the strange, the ambitious, and the underseen.

Every film is chosen with intention, every creator is treated as a partner. We know how long animation takes, and how often great work gets buried online. This is for the people who want to find it.

How it works

Built to help great films find an audience — and a longer life online.

01
We curate

Filmmakers submit a private link. We watch everything and choose a small number of films with intention.

02
We release

Each film gets a weekly premiere on the Scrimshaw YouTube channel, an editorial feature here, and promotion across our channels.

03
We share

75% of the film's YouTube revenue goes to the filmmaker. The film stays yours, and stays eligible for festivals.

FAQ

Questions filmmakers actually ask.

Still unsure? hello@scrimshawanimation.com

Do I retain ownership of my film?
Yes. You keep full ownership and IP. Scrimshaw never takes rights to your film.
What does YouTube exclusivity mean?
[ANSWER — e.g. for the agreed term, the film streams publicly on YouTube only through the Scrimshaw channel. Other platforms and private/festival screenings are unaffected.]
Can my film still play festivals?
Yes. Films remain eligible for festivals, awards and private screenings. [Add any festival-premiere timing notes.]
Does Scrimshaw pay filmmakers?
Yes. 75% of film-specific YouTube revenue goes to the filmmaker; Scrimshaw keeps 25% to run the platform.
How does revenue sharing work?
[ANSWER — payout cadence, reporting, thresholds, how revenue is attributed per film.]
Can I submit an unreleased film?
[ANSWER — yes/no and how premieres are handled.]
Do you accept student films?
[ANSWER]
What kinds of animation do you accept?
Any technique — 2D, 3D, stop motion, mixed media, rotoscope, textile, hand-drawn. We care about the film, not the pipeline.
Can I submit a music video?
[ANSWER]
Do you accept AI-generated animation?
No. Scrimshaw is an AI-free platform: real humans for real art. [Add the specific policy on AI-assisted tooling.]
